Historical Diving Society’s Annual Conference

 
 

23 Jul 2023 - The Historical Diving Society is holding its 32nd Annual Conference at the UK head office of world-renowned offshore engineering contractor Subsea 7 in Sutton UK on Saturday 18th November 2023. The conference is open to everyone who has an interest in diving history.

Talks/Speakers include:

Michael Welham, former Royal Marine Commando and author who will talk about Special Forces divers from a historical point of view. His book ‘Combat Divers’ will be available to purchase at the conference.

Karina Kowalska, author and owner of a diving museum in Poland. Her talk gives an account of the origins of the Polish Special Forces.

Sven Erik Jørgensen, founder member of the Danish Historical Diving Society. His talk is ‘A wreck diver’s diary of the salvage of batteries from German Submarines in Hørup Hav (1950-51)’

Finn Linnemann, another prominent member of the Danish Historical Diving Society will give an illustrated talk on the history and salvage of German U-boat U534.

Peter Dick, founder member of the Historical Diving Society and editor of its magazine and Journal will wrap up the proceedings with a short, pictorial presentation: a light-hearted look at diving through images.

The Historical Diving Society (HDS)

The HDS was formed in the UK in 1990 for the preservation, protection and promotion of diving heritage, and has since grown to become a worldwide organisation of affiliated national societies all with the same aims and interests.

It is a registered charity, and that also owns and runs the internationally important Diving Museum in Gosport, UK.
