Death of Surg Capt Peter John Benton MB BCh FFOM ChB RN

21 Feb 2023 - I regret to report that MCDOA associate member Peter Benton crossed the bar on 12 February 2023. He had been suffering from pancreatic cancer.

Peter was a former Head of Diving Medicine at INM (Institute of Naval Medicine) at Alverstoke. His other appointments included HMS DOLPHIN, HMS CARDIFF, HMS NEPTUNE, Flag Officer Portsmouth, Flag Officer Naval Aviation, exchange service at USNMRL (US Navy Medical Research Laboratory) Groton in Massachusetts, and HMS DRAKE in various roles. He was a particular specialist in the medical aspects of submarine escape and rescue.

Over the years, I passed Peter several people’s queries about medical conditions possibly incurred as the result of diving and he was ever helpful.

Further details will be published when available. In the meantime, I am sure all members of our community will join me in extending our sincere condolences to Jude and Peter’s other family and close friends.
