Tim Davey installed as CBF Gibraltar
2 Jul 2026 - MCDOA member Tim Davey assumed the role of Commander British Forces Gibraltar (CBF Gibraltar) on Saturday 27 June having served over three years as the Captain of HMS COLLINGWOOD.
He relieved Cdre Tom Guy (left) who was sent off with bagpipes and an 11 gun salute.
Cdre Guy and his wife will be sailing back to the UK in the yacht in which they arrived in Gibraltar from the USA four years ago. See video here.
Before Cdre Guy’s departure, Fabian Picardo, the Chief Minister of Gibraltar, thanked him for his four years in post and presented him with a framed print of the Rock, given with the gratitude of the Government and the people of Gibraltar.
He also welcomed Tim Davey to the Rock.
On assuming his new role, Tim said:
"There's a fantastic team here that have got incredible knowledge and experience working in the headquarters and working, of course, with the government of Gibraltar and the people of Gibraltar," Cdre Davey told the Gibraltar Chronicle.
"For me, it's about learning, particularly in those first three to six months, and understanding how I can hopefully add some value to the amazing team that already work here."
Tim will be in post on Saturday 19 September for the unveiling by his fellow MCDOA member Al Nekrews OBE QGM of a blue plaque commemorating the WWII Underwater Warking Party (UWWP) that combatted the Italian Decima MAS human torpedo divers who attacked shipping anchored in Gibraltar Bay.
Like the unveiling of the blue plaques honouring the 'P' Party divers at Brixham and the LCOCU divers at Appledore in May last year, this ceremony is being organised by legendary former Clearance Diver Ginge Fullen QGM.
I am sure all members of our community will join me in wishing Tim every success in his new appointment.
