MWA AGM & Reunion weekend

22 Mar 2026 - This year’s Minewarfare Association AGM and Reunion Weekend has just concluded.

The AGM was held on Saturday morning in the Victory Room at the Holiday Inn Express in Gunwharf Quays, formerly HMS VERNON, in Portsmouth and was highly productive. It was attended by joint MCDOA/MWA members John ‘George’ Turnbull, Bill Kerr and your humble Vice Chairman & Webmaster (Rob Hoole) among others.

On completion of the AGM, delegates mustered for the obligatory group photo with the Vernon Mine Warfare & Diving Monument before visiting various hostelries for lunch.

In the evening, members returned to Gunwharf Quays with wives and partners for the reunion meal held in what was once the Captain of HMS VERNON’s office upstairs in the Old Customs House at Gunwharf Quays. This included a finger buffet, raffle and auction to raise funds towards the installation of a Mine Warfare Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.

It was grand to see so many familiar faces again and we owe a huge debt of gratitude to Jim Hawkins, Peter Whitehead, Tony Mulrain and everyone else whose organisation and work behind the scenes throughout the year helped make the event such a success.

Just short of £600 was raised towards the Mine Warfare Memorial but you can help increase this total. The GoFundMe page for making donations is here:
