Funeral of Lt Cdr Doug Barlow RN

24 Aug 2022 - As expected, yesterday’s funeral of MCDOA Associate Member Dougie Barlow was well attended. As many of you will know, Dougie was my dear friend, sea-daddy and best man. We first met in 1973 at HMS VERNON where we served and lived in the wardroom mess as single men with fellow MCDOA member Martyn Holloway. Since leaving the Royal Navy, our ‘Not Quite the Last of the Summer Wine’ trio has engaged in many sailing trips in Doug’s yacht Dougout and ‘Gentlemen Who Lunch’ gatherings in country pubs as chronicled in the old MCDOA website.

It was particularly good to see fellow Minewarfare & Clearance Diving Officers Roger Davies, Geoff Goodwin, Mike Harwood and my MCDOA co-founder David Sandiford. Roger left before these photos were taken.

MCDOA member Bob Hawkins MBE added a touch of class by appearing in uniform.

We extend our heartfelt sympathy to Dougie’s wife Jill, his daughters Carol and Cheryl, and their families.
