Death of Lt Cdr Edward Roger Davies RN

26 Dec 2020 - Past MCDOA Chairman David Hilton has notified me that MCDOA member Roger Davies crossed the bar on Saturday 20 December “after a short but brave fight with extremely aggressive cancer”. He was 78.

The accompanying photo shows Roger far right at a Christmas ball in the wardroom at HMS NELSON in the early 1990s with his wife Sue, Martyn Holloway and his wife Ann, Yours Truly (Rob Hoole), my wife Linda and my late parents-in-law.

The online Navy List Research Archives on which I normally rely are no longer accessible but I know that Roger was commissioned from the lower deck and qualified as an MCD officer at HMS VERNON in 1980. He went on to be OIC of PACDU (Portsmouth Area Clearance Diving Unit) and XO of HMS MIDDLETON.

I am sure all members of our community will join me in expressing our sincere condolences to Roger’s wife Sue and the other members of his family. I will publish funeral detais as and when they become available.
