Death of Lt Cdr Alan Arthur Bayliss RN

Alan Bayliss at the MCDOA’s Annual Dinner in 2003

25 Aug 2025 - James ‘Ray’ Nolton has passed me the sad news that MCDOA member ‘Uncle Alan’ Bayliss crossed the bar early this morning at the age of 87. He had been ailing for some time but passed peacefully with his family around him.

Alan qualified as an MCD officer at HMS VERNON in 1973. He lived in Fife and served in a number of MCD roles, mostly north of the border. He will particularly be remembered for superseding the late Harry Parker as COMMW/Capt MFP’s Route Survey Officer responsible for tasking a number of MCMVs on Operation PIKE.

I will expand this into a fuller obituary when time and information permit. In the meantime, I’m sure all members of our community will join me in extending our sincere condolences to Alan’s family.
