Alex & Castro Meet in Crete
3 Aug 2022 - According to this tweet, MCDOA member Alex Bush (right), the former Commanding Officer of HMS PENZANCE (MCM1 Crew 1), is pictured here with the ship's current CO, fellow MCDOA member Timothy ‘Castro’ Castrinoyannakis (centre), who was raised in Athens. They were warmly welcomed to Crete by Capt Ioannis Tsolakis of the Greek Navy (left).
Alex is the current UK Defence Attaché in Athens.
HMS PENZANCE appears to be returning to the UK after her three year deployment in the Gulf on Operation KIPION MCM.
With PENZANCE’s withdrawal, it is understood that the number of RN minehunters in the Gulf will remain at three in future instead of four.
